Here’s the Recap of those 2 great weeks of racing across North-America!
Canada Cup #2 – Panorama, BC – 4-6 July:
I have once again been chosen to be the Manager/Coach of the Quebec Downhill Provincial Team for the Canada Cup #2 and the National Champs.
Julien Laramee was the only rider of the team to attend this race. He was selected on the Quebec Team as one out of 4 Elite Athletes.
The Panorama race course is a loved one on the Canadian Circuit. With many technical steep sections, rock gardens and pedaling sections all on a moon dust type of terrain this course is a tough one!
This race did’nt go as planned for Julien. After a great result there last season he was aiming for a top 5 but a not so good run in the finals gave him the 16th position. For sure he was disappointed with his results but his trip out west wasn’t over as we were heading to Sun Peaks for the Canadian National Championships the next week-end.
Julien Laramee: 16th – Elite Men
During this same week-end, John Lefrancois & Guillaume Lamaree (Our 2 other Pro/Elite riders) and Frank Perron (Our Junior Rider) were attending the B-Maaxx Cup #2 in Bromont.
B-Maaxx Cup #2 – Bromont, QC – 5-6 July:
The B-Maaxx Series was once again inviting all riders from beginners to pros for his second round. The race took place on the bottom of the famous World Cup Race Track of Bromont. John won the B-Maaxx race on this course last year and was aiming at the top step of the podium once again this season!
John did not disappoint and won the race in the Pro Category. Guillaume Laramee ended up in 7th while his teammate Frank ended up 8th in the Pro Category as well.
John Lefrancois: 1st – Pro Men
Guillaume Laramee: 7th – Pro Men
Frank Perron: 8th – Pro Men
Canadian National Championships – Sun Peaks, BC – 11-13 July:
For the Nationals, John flew out west and came meet us at Sun Peaks. Julien was stoked to have his fellow teammate there with him.
The sun was out all week and the course was fast and brutal! Huge brake bumps and holes all over the track. It was really hard physically to hold it perfectly all the way down this track. The terrain there is super hard pack, dusty and with the course full filled of G-Outs and fast highways it resume into pure roughness where the bikes and all the components are really solicited. Suspensions, wheels tires, chainguides, brake pads, etc…Everything held up greatly!
During all the week-end, John and Julien were really confident for good results and after a not so good race the week before, Julien hoped to come back strongly from his disappointing 16th place in Panorama. In finals, Julien made a big mistake on the first part of the course and couldn’t do better than a 29th. After a good finish in seedings saturday (10th position) and a not so good run, John knew he could do a great result but the roughness getting worse and the deterioration of the course costed him few mistakes here and there and he ended up in 17th.
A not so good week-end at the Nationals for the riders of the team but it’s a part of the game and the boys know what to do to improve their riding and technique. John and Julien move on to the next events as they will attend the MSA and the Windham World Cups in the coming weeks.
John Lefrancois: 17th – Elite Men
Julien Laramee: 29th – Elite Men
During this same week-end, our Junior rider, Frank Perron made his way to Mount Attitash in the New Hampshire to attend a round of the US Eastern States Cup Series.
-Eastern States Cup – Attitash, NH – 11-13 July
Our Junior rider did a little adventure out of the country and attended the Eastern States Cup that was taking place at Attitash in New Hampshire. The sun was out, the track was awesome Frank said. He was confident on the course and his goal was to finish into the Top 5 and he did just that finishing in 4th place.
Frank Perron: 4th – Junior Expert.
